Goldenrod

Harbinger of fall, goldenrod sets the hedgerows and meadows ablaze with its bright golden blossoms. It’s warming and resinous, and its vivid colour is an amazing medicine in itself, bringing cheer and joy to the fading season. October is the tail end of the goldenrod season. We’ll take advantage of the last of the goldenrod to learn about this amazing plant and make an infused honey with its fragrant blossoms. Goldenrod is often mistaken for ragweed as the cause for seasonal allergies; indeed, both plants start to flower around the same time, and while ragweed pollen is light and easily airborne, goldenrod pollen is too heavy, and thus not the culprit for seasonal allergies. In order to keep costs low and accessible, we ask you bring 1 small jar for this workshop. We will provide all other ingredients.

Accessibility information: this session will take place on a farm property. We will have tables and chairs available.

What to bring:

• Item for our snack potluck: since this session takes place around dinner time, I wanted to ensure we are all nourished during this learning session. I want to take the pressure out of worrying of bringing a meal, and instead have each of you focused on bringing a small, simple item to share, such as sliced fruit, a bar of dark chocolate, nuts, a baked good, or other. Please be aware of gluten & dairy intolerances.
