History, heritage and culture take centre stage.

Cobourg’s downtown is steeped in history, arts, and culture, anchored by Victoria Hall — the town’s showstopping 1850s town hall that once had its sights set on becoming the capital of Upper Canada. The Old Bailey courtroom, (a beautiful spot for an intimate wedding by the way), finds its home on the first floor, the Concert Hall at Victoria Hall on the second floor hosts concerts and theatrical performances and the Art Gallery of Northumberland is on the third floor houses the area’s largest public collection.

History lovers can dig deeper at the Cobourg and Area Museum or visit Marie Dressler House, the original home of Canada’s first female Academy Award Winner and the Canadian Women in Film Museum. The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum is also set to open in 2027. So many options to discover the history at the heart of Cobourg.

Getting Here

Cobourg is located east of Port Hope, about halfway between Toronto and Kingston (which makes it a great stop on any Eastern Ontario road trip!). By car, you’ll find 2 exits from the 401 including exit 472 (Burnham Street) and 474 (Division Street/Highway 45).

VIA Rail also offers stops in Cobourg on its corridor train service between Montreal and Toronto.

Cobourg is also unique because it’s accessible by water! Arrive in Cobourg and dock at Cobourg Marina.
