Outside, Grafton has plenty for hikers, cyclists, and paddlers. The Nawautin Nature Sanctuary and its covered bridge make for a picturesque, relaxed hike and a hot spot for birding. Cyclists can enjoy riding part of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail or try one of two signed, looped cycling routes that cover the area – check out the Shelter Valley or Presqu’ile Promise route. Easy water access can be found at Wicklow Beach with a quiet escape for those wishing to swim or paddle board and a launch down the road for boats. In the surrounding areas you’ll find the Northumberland County Forest, Peter’s Woods Provincial Nature Reserve (closed in winter), and Hazel Bird Nature Reserve – so many options for great hiking, mountain biking, fat biking and winter sports. Golfers can squeeze in a round at Shelter Valley Pines or the shorter Grafton Creekside course.
