Indigenous Connections

Located on the south side of Rice Lake, about 30km north of Cobourg, Alderville First Nation has been home to the Mississauga Anishinabeg of the Ojibway Nation since the mid-1830’s. Today, it is a thriving community, rich in heritage and native culture. Traditions are honoured through native crafts, land conservation and education at the Black Oak Savanna, an Annual Pow-wow, Drum Socials, and an annual Boating Regatta.

Built in 1927, The Alderville War Monument stands nearly 50 feet tall to honour veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War including Alderville’s community members who served and sacrificed. It is one of Canada’s most striking and historic memorials and a powerful symbol of remembrance and pride.
